Researchers have found that domestic researchers can use SARS and MERS antibodies to develop antibodies and vaccines for the treatment of corona19. This is driving the development of Corona19 drugs and vaccines.
The Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology announced on the 4th that a new virus (CEVI) fusion research group predicted that two SARS neutralizing antibodies and one MERS neutralizing antibody could bind to the corona 19 spike protein.
Neutralizing antibodies refer to antibodies that bind to viruses (antigens) and inhibit their activity. Spike proteins are proteins used when corona viruses invade cells.
The CEVI Fusion Research Group confirmed the similarity with SARS virus through genome analysis of Corona19. Bioinformatics analysis predicted that SARS and MERS neutralizing antibodies could bind to Corona19.
As a result, it was predicted that two existing SARS neutralizing antibodies and one MERS antibody could bind to the corona 19 spike protein. The findings are expected to help accelerate the development of antibodies and vaccines for the treatment of Corona19.
CEVI Convergence Research Group conducts research on developing new virus diagnosis, vaccines, therapeutics, and anti-proliferation technologies by a total of eight government-funded research institutes, centered on the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology.
