Common Ground, located near the university of Konkuk in Seoul, is known for being Korea’s first pop-up store built with shipping containers. Now, it is made up with 200 large containers where you can find trendy mid-sized shops rather than the very big mainstream brands
The area is divided into different themes : First, there is Street Market where stores are mostly targeting women in their early/mid 20s. There is also Market Hall, where popular online apparel stores can be found. If you want to spend some time in Common Ground, you can have a break at the food and beverage area, where you can enjoy the terrace view of the shopping mall. In the middle of the containers you can find an outdoor area where a variety of events are hold during weekends.
Common Ground is also known for being a trendy Instagram spot where lots of young people come to take pictures. Most popular spots are in front of the plain blue walls or decorated ones. Also, during the night, the area lights up thanks to many fairy lights, giving it a really cozy atmosphere.
Because it is not located near the most visited areas of Seoul such as MyeongDong or Hongdae, I would recommend spending half a day there, as the subway can be quite long depending on where your accommodation is. Seoul Children’s Grand Park is just a station away so it can be a good idea to visit it on the same day as the Common Ground. You can also enjoy Seoul’s nightlife in Konkuk University area just next to the containers.
To get to the containers, take the subway and stop at Konkuk University station (line 2 and 7). Get out from exit 6 and keep walking straight for about 2 minutes until you arrive.
