Girl group Everglow’s agency was punished by the Chinese authorities for participating Everglow in a military consolation performance.

According to the South China Morning Post (SCMP) on the 27th (local time), Everglow’s agency Yuehua Entertainment recently made a statement and said, “We deeply reflect and sincerely apologize for negatively affecting the performance of the Korean subsidiary. We accepted.”

Yuehua Entertainment added, “The company rejects any action that harms national interests unanimously with the authorities. In the future, we will apply this rule more strictly to our business.”

According to the media, on May 18th, Yuehua Entertainment was punished by the Beijing City Cultural Markets Administrative Enforcement Commission for violating the performance regulations related to foreigners. In the document released together, it was stated that attending any performance or exhibition deemed to harm national and individual honors in China or elsewhere may result in penalties such as warnings, fines, suspension or cancellation of participation in cultural activities abroad.

Yuehua Entertainment Korea, a Korean subsidiary of Yuehua Entertainment, participated in its girl group Everglow in the performance of the defense TV ‘Military Train’, a consolation performer for Korean soldiers in June last year. Among the Everglow members, there was controversy over being a member of Chinese nationality, and most Chinese netizens are showing opinion that the punishment is justified.
