‘SM ENTERTAINMENT SQUARE’ will be created in the center of Los Angeles, USA.

On October 28 (local time), the LA City Council decided to name the intersection of 6th Avenue and Oxford Avenue in downtown Los Angeles as ‘SM Entertainment Square’.

This is to commemorate the contributions of SM and Lee Soo-man, who led the K-POP craze and made remarkable achievements in the global music market, as well as contributed to promoting Korean culture in LA, and the United States with symbolic significance such as New York Times Square. This is the first time that the name of a Korean entertainment company has been named in the street name, adding meaning.

Accordingly, LA Consul General Park Kyung-jae prayed that “the newly designated ‘SM Entertainment Square’ will develop from LA, the home of the film and culture industry, to the center of the Korean entertainment industry that promotes K-pop and Hallyu culture to the world, and Times Square in New York City. Likewise, in LA,’SM Entertainment Square’ is expected to become a place where young people from all over the world gather.”

Rep. Herb Wesson of Los Angeles City Council said, “I pay homage to the innovative contributions made by SM Entertainment and Lee Soo-man, the general producer of K-POP to the world stage.”

Meanwhile, SM’s complex entertainment space SMT LA will also be opened in ‘SM Entertainment Square’, so it is expected to contribute to promoting Korean culture and lifestyle locally.
