‘Queen Cheorin’ announces the birth of a fusion historical drama comedy with a different level of simplicity.
TVN’s new Saturday drama ‘Queen Cheorin’ (played by Park Gye-ok Choi A-il, director Yoon Sung-sik), which will be broadcast for the first time on the 12th, is with Kim So-yong (played by Shin Hye-sun), who became a Korean representative arrogant man in an accident. It draws a scandal that takes place between the two-faced king Cheoljong (played by Kim Jung-hyun).
The unity of the production crew that guarantees completeness makes the drama fans excited. Director Yoon Seong-sik, loved through the dramas ‘Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth’, ‘The King’s Face’ and ‘Bridal Mask’, once again shows the power of a delicate and dynamic direction. The synergy between the recognized ‘Doctor Prisoner’ Park Gye-ok and Choi A-il, who wrote the movie ‘Lovers of 6 Years’ is also unique. They are raising expectations on how to unravel the extraordinary survival period that the modern free-spirited soul dwells in the heavy-duty body living under strict rules.
Writer Park Gye-ok said, “There have been many settings for ‘soul change’, but there were not many cases where gender, age, and characters were all at once. Through the adaptation period of Jang Bong-hwan, who faces the problem of ‘male and female’ in a situation where it is reversed, it is a story about understanding, respect, and solidarity as a ‘person-to-person’ beyond gender.” Artist Choi A-il said, “I focused on ‘how will we jump in the taboos, frameworks and prejudices’. Characters trapped in the times, places, and statuses pour out all of themselves in palace, which is considered to be their own league, and depicts the characters trying to overcome the situation. The artist pointed out the distinction, saying that the protagonists will be able to feel the satisfaction of surrogate with the contents of breaking their own league by crossing taboo boundaries without losing their ‘confidence’.
Director Yoon Sung-sik revealed that not only his imagination, but also interesting episodes surrounding cooking, as the spirit of the Blue House chef resides in his body. He said, “When I first encountered the script, it was so easy to understand and fun,” he picked the sticky and tasty lines as the charm of the ‘Queen Cheorin’. “I tried to make the viewers feel comfortable and have a natural smile. Over-action is inevitable due to the nature of comedy, but with the idea that all laughter comes from probability, we focused on realizing the reality and visuals of the situation.”
The comical synergy between Shin Hye-sun and Kim Jung-hyun, who foretells the hard carry of laughter with a sticky friendship (?) and a quick excitement, is by far the best point to watch. Director Yoon Sung-sik, who revealed that it would have been a great challenge for two actors with excellent acting skills, said, “Both the characters of Kim So-yong and Cheoljong are fresh and attractive characters that have never been seen in previous fusion historical dramas. Kim So-Yong, a middle warlord who has the soul of a man, must lead a comedy while expressing in-depth the difference between various situations and emotions. Cheoljong is also a character who has to express complex emotional lines such as childhood trauma as well as comedy.” “Thanks to actors Shin Hye-sun and Kim Jung-hyun, who digested 120% of those difficult characters, we were able to show an upgraded charm. He expressed his extraordinary affection, saying, “I sincerely thank the two actors who did not get sick in any situation and worked enthusiastically.”
Writers Park Gye-ok and Choi A-il also sent generous trust to the actors. “Actress Shin Hye-sun is truly great actress. Her detailed efforts to explode everyone with just one small glance completed ‘Kim So-yong’, which goes beyond perfection. Actor Kim Jung-hyun is also a threatening actor who takes control of the gods only by reaction. He praised him as having a sense of change, freely crossing hot and cold baths, allowing him to go back and forth between sharpness and comedy in just one second.” In addition, director Yoon Sung-sik raised expectations, saying, “The stable vocalization of historical dramas such as Bae Jong-ok, Kim Tae-woo, Cha Cheong-hwa, and Kim In-kwon, as well as the colorful comedy provided by actors equipped with acting skills capable of digesting comedy will be another point of watching.”
Finally, director Yoon Sung-sik said, “’Queen Cheorin’ is a pleasant and easy comedy drama. We are going to give you a pleasant and cool laughter, so enjoy yourself and laugh a lot.” Artist Park Gye-ok encouraged the main broadcast, saying, “If you just enjoy watching it, there is nothing more to hope for,” and author Choi A-il also said “worked a lot to provide a variety of fun. It laughs and laughs, and the action takes place, and it gives a chewy thrill. Even the comedy completed with the masterpiece hot performances of the actors who digested the ever-changing tones with perfection, an hour later will be deleted.”
On the other hand, tvN’s new Saturday drama ‘Queen Cheorin’ will be broadcast for the first time at 9 pm on Saturday the 12th, following ‘Startup’.
