KBS, which took a drive to increase the license fee this year, is in the process of submitting a plan to increase the license fee to the board of directors within this year and collecting opinions from citizens.
KBS recently presented ‘safety-centered media’ as the biggest reason for realizing license fees through a newsletter. It is also the background of making efforts to report on disasters such as COVID-19 as a disaster hosting broadcaster.
KBS said, “We must play a role as a safety-centered media in Korea that protects the lives and property of the people by delivering the disaster situation at the forefront of the disaster site in the fastest and most accurate way.”
The Broadcast explained that it is necessary to increase the license fee for the establishment of a system that delivers only news with verified facts and authenticity, the revival of a TV drama, continuous organization of large-scale project projects such as ‘Korea Again Na Hoon-ah’, and high-quality documentary production.
This is the fourth time to increase KBS license fees after 2007, 2010, and 2013. KBS is working hard to propose an increase in license fees to the KBS board of directors within this year in order to initiate the discussion. The timing of the board meeting is expected to be at the end of the year or early next year.
A related public hearing scheduled for the coming 17th, in which academia and civil society panelists appear, was delayed.
