The music industry has had an unprecedented tough year with COVID-19 in 2020, and the new year in the dark has come. As the COVID-19 situation seldom shows any signs of improvement, and social distancing is also maintained at step 2.5, most concerts scheduled at the beginning of the year are also held as online performances.

The music industry, where offline performances were virtually blocked due to COVID-19, is actually returning to the online performance system since the middle of last year. A number of idol concerts such as BTS, Twice, NCT, and Oh My Girl were held online, and some large-scale music festivals took the form of online performances instead of canceling to meet the audience.

As an incentive for Corona 19 to be seldom faded and prolonged, non-face-to-face promotion events through online are rather a new climate in the industry. Concerts are also being conducted online without audiences according to titles such as ‘Online’ and ‘Contactless’, but the Online concert, which started as an idol concert, is gradually expanding its scope.

At the end of last year, BTS’ agency Big Hit Labels performance was held online and met fans around the world. On the 1st, the first day of the new year, SM Town live concert was held for free online, consoling music fans all over the world who were greeted by COVID-19.

Also, on the 3rd, EXO Baekhyun’s solo concert was held online. Baekhyun’s concert was visited by 110,000 spectators from all over the world, boasting a huge box office power.

On the 23rd, SEVENTEEN will hold a concert ‘In-Complete’ after 1 year and 5 months online, and on the 24th, SF9 will hold an online fan meeting ‘SF9 Workshop’ and meet fans. On the 31st, BLACKPINK will present a live stream performance performed last month and a spectacular stage in front of Blink around the world.

Prior to this, on the 16th, ‘2021 BMF (Bangya Music Festival)’ will be conducted online streaming. Popular idols such as Monsta X, AB6IX, ITZY, Rocket Punch, and Golden Child will appear in the performance.

Although it is not an online performance, the final contest of ‘Kim Gwang-seok Singing’, a memorial event for late Kim Gwang-seok, will be held without spectators. This is the first time that the ‘Kim Gwang-seok Singing’ event has been held without an audience. The organizers said, “We will proceed with the minimum number of people taking into account the situation of Corona 19, and not only the general audience, but also the participants’ families and acquaintances, etc., without spectators.” However, the event is not broadcast live online.

The music industry predicts that offline performances will be difficult in the future. One official said, “It’s unfortunate, but expectations that the COVID-19 situation will improve sooner or later have disappeared.”
