While ‘RPS (Real Person Slash)’ and ‘Deepfake’, which target male and female idols, have emerged as social issues, people in the entertainment industry pointed out the seriousness of the problem.
An official from an entertainment agency told Maeil Business Daily Star Today on the 13th, “Fan fiction has been one of the idol fandom cultures from a long time ago, but I think the problem is that some of them are gradually changing. I think this ‘RPS’ and ‘Deepfake’ situation is no different from crime, not from fan culture. Artists such as idol members are directly affected, so it seems that the stage of dismissing it as a simple fan culture is over.”
Another celebrity official said, “’RPS’ is also a shock, and ‘Deepfake’ is a serious crime. People who know Deepfake recognize that it’s fake, but most of them don’t know whether the video is authentic or not. So, you might think that the artist really exposed them,” he pointed out to the evils of RPS and Deepfakes. He said, “Deepfake not only the artist himself, but also his family are very shocked.”
“I was surprised to see RPS or Deepfakes. Is it okay to distribute these,” said an official from another agency to which the idol group belongs. “It should be banned right away because it is sexual objectification.”
In this regard, the agencies are in the position that they will also review legal responses to RPS and Deepfakes.
Earlier on the 11th and 12th, on the Blue House National Petition Bulletin, a petition saying, ‘Please strongly punish users of ‘RPS’ who use minor male idols as sexual soothers’, and ‘Please strongly punish Deepfakes’, an illegal video that causes female entertainers to suffer Articles were published one after another.
‘RPS’ is a novel that sexualizes male idol members, and is a sex crime culture that depicts sexual relations and rape. On the other hand, ‘Deep Fake’ is a technology that synthesizes the face of a female celebrity with an existing video to create a fake video. In particular, there are many cases of damage caused by the spread of deep fakes in which a specific celebrity’s face is synthesized in adult videos.
As of 4:15 pm on the 13th, about 176,000 petitions related to ‘RPS’ and 247,000 petitions related to ‘Deepfake’ have been obtained.
In addition to the national petition, Congressman Ha Tae-kyung(Power of People) pointed out that ‘RPS’ is a crime, calling it “the second room N incident”. More people are calling for harsh punishment. In the midst of this, there is a movement that is spreading to the gender conflict in some, raising concerns.
