The “One and Only” salvation narrative, which transcends the time and space of Cho Seung-woo and Park Shin-hye of “Sisyphus,” gives a touching feeling.
JTBC’s 10th anniversary special “Sisyphus: the Myth” (written by Jeon Chan-ho, directed by Jin Hyuk, produced by Drama House Studio, JTBC Studio) is captivating the home theater with the story of genius engineer Han Tae-sul (Cho Seung-woo), who has crossed the city to protect him from any threat. In particular, Tae-sul and Seo-hae’s “One and Only” salvation narrative is a major point that attracts viewers to the first row of their homes every Wednesday and Thursday night.
The first impression of each other was not very good. Tae-sul failed to reunite with his brother in 10 years because of Seo-hae, and Seo-hae had to be treated as a stalker even after saving Tae-sul’s life. As they moved away from Asian Mart and its regulatory agencies, they often went against each other. Even at the moment of unity, those who wrestled with each other were reminiscent of Tom and Jerry.
The two were reborn as “one and only” each other in the sixth episode of the broadcast. “The only people we can trust in the past, present, and future” were now each other. It was Tae-sul’s declaration that caused the inflection point of the quarreling relationship. Tae-sul knew that his brother Han Tae-san (Heo Joon-seok) and the purpose of Seo-hae to protect him would be as conflicting as at the Busan Conference. Therefore, he drew a line to go his own way now.
However, as soon as Tae-sul was alone, she realized that Seo-hae was saying, “You can’t last a day alone,” and eventually took her hand again. When the barrier that was blocking the two collapsed, the relationship between the two also changed rapidly. The commonality of losing someone in the past led to compassion and sympathy for each other. The night view was a shining time, bringing up deep stories one by one, and the two were emotionally in solidarity, and they got a little closer.
There was also an opportunity for the relationship between Tae-sul and Seo-hae to become more solid. Tae-sul went to the house of Kim Han-yong, chairman of Quantum & Time, and learned the shocking story. Sigma (Kim Byung-chul) and Kim Han-yong and Kim Seo-jin (Jung Hye-in), who are aiming for themselves, were all in the same group. The betrayal of the father and daughter was a great shock to Tae-sul, who trusted and relied on them. Even the first meeting with Seo-hae and the conference, being caught by Asian Mart, running away from the crackdown bureau, and saving Seo-hae were all as clear as yesterday, Seo-jin claimed. Tae-sul was increasingly suspicious of herself in her brainwashing.
It was also Seo-hae that saved him from being trapped in a mental hospital due to drug addiction. Tae-sul, who collapsed after taking the medicine given by Seo-jin, met Seo-hae in unconsciousness, and with her help, she realized that not only Seo-hae but also all the things she went through were real. In addition, Seo-hae sent an EMP to get out of the heavily guarded penthouse, and supported the escaped Tae-sul until the end. Finally reunited, they became one and only, smiling brightly at each other for the first time.
This narrative of Tae-sul and Seo-hae is expected to become more powerful in the future. This can be inferred from the rice cakes thrown everywhere, and in the previous episode, Sigma fired at Seo-hae and urged Tae-sul to choose, “Woman, it’s the world.” However, given that Sisyphus’s fate continues to repeat itself, it can be assumed that Tae-sul chose Seo-hae. Seo-hae is repeating its Nth journey from the future to the present in order to revive Tae-sul. Her long writing in her diary showed how desperate she was to save Tae-sul. The firm will builds a strong belief that they will save each other endlessly in front of their given fate.
“Sisyphus” airs every Wednesday and Thursday at 9 p.m. on JTBC.
