National marathoner Lee Bong-ju (51) said, “I’m going to wake up” while fighting for more than a year from an intractable muscle dystonia. Lee Bong-ju who always ran with a bright face, was shocked by the appearance of a bent back, riding in a wheelchair, or wearing a cane on a recent broadcast, but he made up his determination to get up again.

Lee Bong-ju revealed the current situation in the fight against the disease in an interview with the CBS radio ‘Kim Hyun-jung’s News Show’ that aired on the 7th.

Lee Bong-ju, suffering from an intractable muscle dystonia, said, “It’s been about a year since my body has not improved. It has been going on since last spring. It’s difficult to straighten your back because you pull it. You need something like a stick to walk, and you can breathe even if you walk a little,” he said about the current state.

Lee Bong-ju said, “I think I’ve been only following hospitals for a year. I’ve been to all the hospitals in Korea. I went to the oriental clinic for a few months and kept looking for good things, but I couldn’t figure out the exact cause, so I kept going for a long time. It’s difficult because there is no way to know where (muscle) tension starts,” he said. “I’m not sure whether I should have surgery or not, so I think I’m a little worried.”

Lee Bong-ju expressed his regret for the suffering family, saying, “Especially, my inner person really struggles a lot next to me. Some times I think that ‘Why do I have to suffer such tragedy?’ I’m so unlucky. I’m not a human being.”

Lee Bong-ju said, “Because I said that I was sick, there were a lot of things around me that cheered me up again in many places. I think that for them, I have to shake off quickly and show a good figure in front of many people with a healthy figure. Who I am? I am a marathon runner, but I will show you a good figure and a running figure to you by getting over well and getting up and running.”
