HYBE Board Chairman Bang Si-hyuk and Global CEO Yoon Seok-jun were selected as ‘Billboard’s 2021 Indie Power Players’.

US Billboard released ‘2021 Indie Power Players’ on its official website on the 7th (local time). ‘Indie Power Players’ is a list that Billboard selects and announces leaders of labels and distributors that have achieved independent achievements in the global music market in addition to Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, and Warner Music Group, which are called the three major American labels.

Billboard included Chairman Bang Si-hyuk and Global CEO Yoon Seok-jun in this year’s ‘Indie Power Players’ and said, “Hive has acquired Ithaca Holdings of Scooter Brown, which has artist management, label services and publishing functions for artists such as Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande.” In addition, he said, “We acquired Naver V Live and established a joint label with Universal Music Group in the United States.” He added, “Hive’s vision is to become ‘the world’s best entertainment lifestyle platform company based on music’ is connected,” he explained. In addition, he predicted that Global CEO Yoon Seok-jun, who will develop local business in the US, will serve as a gateway between Seoul, where the Hive headquarters is located, and Los Angeles, the US base.

This is the second time that Chairman Bang Si-hyuk has been selected as the ‘Indie Power Players’ following last year. In addition, Chairman Bang Si-hyuk and global CEO Yoon Seok-joon were selected as ‘Billboard 2021 International Power Players’ in April, continuing to prove their influence as global music market innovation leaders.

Meanwhile, Billboard analyzed that independence in the music industry is being strengthened, saying that the global music market share of individual labels and artists has increased from 29.7% to 31.1%, excluding the three major labels, despite difficulties such as cancellation of performances over the past year.
