‘BIFAN’ organizing committee “COVID-19 made the film industry harder to host a festival”

Jung Ji-young, chairman of the organizing committee of the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, said he has completed thorough preparations amid the Covid-19.

At 10:30 a.m. on the 15th, the 25th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) press conference was held at the Fantastic Cube in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province. The press conference was attended by Jung Ji-young, chairman of the organizing committee, Shin Chul, Kim Young-deok, senior programmer Nam Jong-seok, programmer Mo Hae-young, programmer Park Jin-hyung and programmer Kim Jong-min.

“The Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival has turned 25 years old,” said Chung Ji-young, chairman of the organizing committee. Following last year, the Covid-19 situation continues this year. As it did last year, the festival will be held in difficult circumstances this year. Based on last year’s experience, this year’s plans are much more detailed and fruitful. “I think we can predict better results and more content than last year.”

Shin Chul, chairman of the executive committee, then said, “Bucheon celebrated its 25th film festival. When we held this year’s film festival, I thought the Covid-19 situation would end, but it seems like it still takes time to overcome it. “I think we can do the film festival offline next year,” he said. “There have been many changes in the film industry as we went through the Corona Pandemic.” The movie has been a genre that has been restricted by poetry and space, but it seems that such restrictions have been removed. The impact will not be lost for long afterwards and will make a big difference in life ahead. So this year, I’m going to set the stage for talking about that kind of change.”

The Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, which took its first step in 1997, is a non-competitive international film festival that introduced partial competition. The 25th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival will be held from July 8th to 18th, with both online and offline screening and audience events.
